A guide to choose appropriate blister packaging

Choosing a right pharmaceutical packaging is very critical as well as necessary decision for safe ingestion of the medicinal products. Blister packaging supplier need to think beyond choosing a pack that looks good, after all ultimate motive of the product is to provide consumer safety while ingestion of product.

With blister packing it is easier to open medicine, count doses, protect from theft and resist from natural external elements. To make it more feasible it is important that a right type of blister packaging is chosen that works best for medicinal product. Type of product is also another major factor that determines the choice. Mainly blister packaging is categorized as – cold formable and thermoformable. Both of them have been classified as per the material they use.

Cold-formable: In this type of packaging products are packed with pressed aluminium to create a case for tablets/capsules which then laminated with plastic as a base. Though aluminum is resistant to many external elements and also possesses high mechanical resistance, but in contrast this metal is has a tendency to deform other materials and create cracks. However including plastic together with aluminium adjusts this problem. This type of pack is opaque, hence is ideal for product that has needs to be protected from light.

Thermoformable: For this packaging thermoformable packaging is used which can be turned into any shape, although they do not provide as much resistance to the external elements (like light) as cold-formable pack since they are transparent. For a product that need not much protection from light, it can be an ideal selection as it offers wide possibility of creating unique shape plus to show off the product.

These blister packs not only provide a barrier but also help in protecting the shelf life of these products. This type of packaging offers a certain amount of tamper resistance. In the US, all physician samples and over-the-counter drugs use blister packaging. The blister pack is also better known as the Push-Through-Pack in some certain countries across the world. Blister packaging ensures some degree of authenticity and integrity of the product.

Blister packs are widely used for medicinal capsules

Choice of material for blister pharmaceutical packaging is entirely dependent on the sensitivity of product from external elements like light, air, heat and moisture. Since every pharmaceutical product has individual degree of resistance, the type of storage and material are selected only after thorough tests and considering several factors. There are different categories and sub-categories of Blister packaging supplier, which are chosen as per their suitability with the product.

The main advantage of this type of packaging is the extended shelf life, due to protection against oxygen and humidity that it provides for these medicinal tablets and capsules, compared to conventional packaging in bottles and containers. With blister packaging, the tablet or capsule does not get exposed to external air and humidity until such time that the aluminium foil is broken. The aluminium foil is not supposed to be broken until just prior to the user ingesting the tablet or capsule.

In the case of conventional bottles and containers, all of the tablets or capsules inside that bottle or container are exposed to external air and humidity every time that the cap is taken off in order to take out just one of these tablets or capsules. This is the reason why when opening a food supplement or vitamin stored in a conventional bottle there is a smell that means that many of the ingredients that were in the capsule or tablet is being lost. In some cases because of the oxygen and humidity, the ingredients change their chemical form. This does not happen when buying food supplements in blister form because the tablets and capsules are protected from oxygen and humidity.

The second advantage of blister packs is the convenience to the user of being able to carry around in his or her pocket or handbag just one flat and light blister card of tablets instead of having to carry the whole bulky and heavy bottle. The need to carry tablets on one's person applies to many tablets, such as headache, anti-histamine, contraceptive, antacid, anti-inflammatory and heart tablets etc.

Retail Product Packaging: Different Options To Consider

A blister pack is one of the more common types of retail product packaging, and we design these for hundreds of different clients each year. Often, a blister pack will include a paperboard backing or perhaps a seal of aluminum foil or perhaps very thin plastic. Blister packs can be used to package millions of products, including medicines, pens and pencils, scissors, tools, toys, batteries, glue sticks and much more.

When a Blister packaging supplier adds a foot to their existing packaging, they improve the opportunity to gain freestanding shelf and counter space. A foot at the bottom of a package allows a portion of the plastic to serve as a base. Many retailers will provide opportunities with more visibility for products that sit on shelves or counters instead of hanging on hooks or lying in bins.

Customers are increasingly sensitive to how products they use impact the environment. In fact, many companies now provide preferences to vendors using eco-sensitive packaging. Manufacturers can specify the use of more environmentally sensitive packaging, such as blister packaging composed of PET materials versus traditional PVC. Efforts to reduce total use of materials and more effective packaging can reduce costs and produce environmental benefits.

Many companies choose clamshells and other blister packaging to provide protection from theft and pilfering. However, the same package has the capabilities to better showcase a product or provide space for highlighting its features. The density of packaging can be increased or decreased to provide greater protection if problems are encountered in the distribution and retailing environment. An example of this creative use is forming packaging around fragile headphones or ear buds, rather than using a box form or standard clamshell.

We can design clamshell packaging for any just about any product from any industry. Our clients include those from the food industry, retail industry, pharmaceutical industry, agricultural industry and electronics industry. Contact us today and we will begin with a consultation to determine what type of clamshell packaging will work best for you.

Blister packaging machine is widely

Blister packaging is a form of plastic packaging and is used in the pharmaceutical as well as the consumer goods industry. The blister packaging machine is increasingly used in these areas and there are many types of blister packaging that are available in the market.

In the pharmaceutical industry, the blister packaging machine is used as unit-dose packaging. Tablets, lozenges, and capsules are packed using the unit-dose packaging system. These Blister packaging supplier not only provide a barrier but also help in protecting the shelf life of these products.

The blister packaging machine is also used extensively in the consumer goods industry. This type of packaging is used in many consumer goods like toys, pens, electrical and electronic goods, hardware, and many other products. This type of packaging is very useful as the consumer can clearly see what is inside and look at the product without having to open it or tamper with it. It is sealed at the manufacturing unit and hence remains tamperproof. A vacuum formed plastic shell is placed around the mold and hence the product can snugly fit into the packaging.

The other form of packaging is known as the clamshell, which is a more secure packaging system. This is especially useful in the packaging of electronic items. This consists of 2 pre-formed plastic sheets that are fused together at the edges. This is designed in such a way to discourage tampering and this is an excellent way to package an item and prevent duplication.

The blister packaging machine has many uses in all these areas of manufacturing and it ensures that the products are tamper-proof to some extent. There are various methods that are used during the manufacturing such as cold forming and thermoforming. Even the materials used in blister packaging can vary.
